Wix alternative
Wix does one thing very well: get you online this weekend with no developer. If that is what you need, this page will say so. It will also tell you what you accept in exchange, and that part is rarely written down.
When Wix is the right call
Best to start there. There are situations where I would recommend Wix without hesitating, and where paying me would be a bad deal.
- Your starting budget is a few hundred euros at most and you have time to put in yourself. A monthly subscription alone is still the cheapest route to existing online.
- You want to drive everything yourself, permanently, depending on nobody. Wix’s visual editor is built for that, and it is good.
- You are testing an idea and do not yet know whether the business will last six months. Paying €1,190 for something that might stop makes no sense; a cancellable subscription does.
- Your site carries no commercial stake: an information page, an association, a personal project.

On this snapshot, Wix beats Astro on the pass rate. That is not a measurement error and not a detail: a hosted platform imposes its constraints on every site it serves, whereas a custom site inherits the choices of whoever built it. So the question is not which technology is fast, but who decides what slows yours down.

The differences that matter
No platform pricing is quoted here on purpose: it changes several times a year, by country and by whatever promotion is running. Check theirs with them, and compare against my figures, which are fixed and stated up front. Written on 4 August 2026 around structural differences, not a price list.
The part nobody mentions
- A Wix site cannot be exported. There is no function to take your pages and host them elsewhere: what you built lives in their editor and does not leave it.
- The domain name does transfer. That matters, and it is the only thing you take with you, along with your text and images if you kept copies.
- In practice, changing your mind after three years means rebuilding the site. The layout work, the page structure, the settings: all of it starts over.
- This is not malice on their part, it is the model. An integrated visual editor does not produce portable files. But it is a decision you make on day one without knowing, and the exit price only shows up the day you want to exit.
When my offer makes more sense
Your site brings you customers, and a slow or badly structured page costs you calls.
You do not want to spend your weekends on it, and your time is worth more than the price difference.
You want to be able to leave without rebuilding, in five years, with somebody else.
You want one person who knows your site, not a support form.
Local search matters to you, and you want it built rather than hoped for.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take my Wix site somewhere else?
No. Wix offers no site export: not the pages, not the layout, not the structure. You can transfer your domain name, and recover your text and images by copying them by hand. The site itself stays with them. If I take over your online presence, we start from a fresh base while keeping your content and your page addresses, which protects your search rankings.
Is a custom site really faster?
Usually yes, for a structural rather than ideological reason: a visual editor has to ship enough code to render anything, so your page carries code it never uses. My pages are generated statically, with no layer on top. But do not take my word for it: run the free audit on your current site and you will have Google’s measurements rather than my opinion.
Wix costs a few euros a month, you cost hundreds. Why?
Because they are not the same thing. A subscription rents you a tool, and the work is still there to do, by you. My setup pays for design and build, and the monthly fee pays for hosting, upkeep and my time. If what you need is a tool and you have the time, the subscription is the right call, and I will say so on a call.
I’m on Wix already and want to move. How does that work?
We collect your text, your images and the list of your page addresses, then the site is rebuilt on my foundation and the old addresses are redirected so you do not lose your Google positions. The domain is transferred or repointed, in your name. The diagnosis is free and will tell you what is worth carrying over as-is and what is worth revisiting.
